Gerson's approach: "Bari, strong decisions: we need motivated people."

Gerson's approach: "Bari, strong decisions: we need motivated people."

On the eve of the preseason training camp, amidst a climate of anticipation and uncertainty, Bari is preparing to embark on a new Serie B season filled with many unknowns and just as many hopes. Transfer market developments, still incomplete and the subject of debate, are fueling debate among fans and insiders, fueling widespread skepticism that is reflected in the streets and on social media. At the center of the discussion is Fabio Caserta, appointed to lead the Biancorossi after a season marked by ups and downs. And the issue of timeshare ownership, which continues to raise doubts about the true scope of the club's ambitions.

In this context, the voice of someone who has played a leading role in Bari can offer a clear and expert perspective. Gege Gerson, a former red and white midfielder and a profound expert on the club, shares his impressions of the club's current situation directly from his native São Paulo, the Brazilian city where he recently settled, partly to oversee the footballing development of his son Lorenzo in the Santos Under-17 team.

Many topics are on the table. From evaluating transfer strategies to analyzing the technical project, including the relationship between the club and its fans, Gerson candidly and passionately analyzes the team's prospects for the upcoming Serie B season.

Gegè, let's start with the transfer market. What's your assessment of Bari's initial moves this summer? Do you think they're following a clear strategy?

The starting point must be the failure to reach the playoffs last season. A huge disappointment. Problems emerged from there. The team had some weaknesses. It's a shame for the fans. If Caserta believes in the reinforcements coming, it's already a good start. Every player would come to play in Bari, but financial resources also matter in a market where competition from other clubs is fierce.

Many fans are expecting significant reinforcements. Which areas require the most urgent attention to best face Serie B?

Winning isn't necessarily achieved with names alone. You have to build a strong, cohesive team. The talents you're looking for don't always come through. Every department deserves special attention. The team is built starting with a good defense, focusing on balance from the waist up, always based on the coach's ideas. Maita, for example, is starting over at Benevento because he received a better offer. That's football. Caserta plays with a back four? More than numbers, it's the players that count. Make room for young, eager and hungry players.

The choice of Fabio Caserta as new coach has sparked mixed reactions. What kind of manager is he, and what qualities can he bring to Bari?

From what I've seen, Fabio Caserta embodies the prototype of a determined coach with a precise game plan. He deserves a wonderful opportunity like this. He and his staff will work well. Wearing the red and white colors is an honor. He'll bring the same determination that waned last year when we were all convinced we'd reach the playoffs. That wasn't the case. It was just anger at a goal that was expected too long. In football, you don't win by waiting.

You've been in the red and white locker room. How important is the relationship between coach and team in a place like Bari?

"I've experienced the locker room for better or worse. Everything happens there. This is where the team, friendships, team spirit, and results on the pitch are built. The relationship between Caserta and his men will be crucial."

The timeshare deal continues to be a hot topic. Do you think it could represent a concrete limitation on the club's ambitions?

"On this matter, I say the Federation should take action. In this sense, Bari is penalized. The important thing is that the club gets back to playing where it deserves."

In this context, how do you assess the company's position regarding its stated objectives? Is there consistency between words and actions?

I'm confident. I'd like to see Bari in the top four, and if there's a chance of moving up, we'll have to push hard to get there. Aiming for the playoffs means settling. Finishing at the top is always better.

The preseason training camp is upon us. How important is it to start with the right spirit and a solid squad?

Caserta will give it his all. Bari represents a great professional opportunity for him, too. Even in training and friendlies, you need to take to the field with the right attitude. Prepare well. I hope Caserta is lucky, and so are the upcoming players. It's important to know what to do right from the start.

The fans' skepticism is palpable. As a former player, how do you handle the pressure from a demanding crowd like Bari?

Regardless of their names, all the players who will be lucky enough to play for Bari must arrive with the right attitude. This will make the difference. The fans are demanding, and supporting your favorite team isn't a hobby. The passion of these fans is no joke. It's important for new players to know this.

Looking ahead to the upcoming Serie B championship, which teams do you see as your main rivals, and where can Bari realistically fit in?

I hope the situation changes. The opponents are fierce and well-equipped. We need to focus on internal matters. I'll always put Bari at the top. Many will fight to climb up the table, and then, against the red and whites, everyone plays with their teeth. Both at the San Nicola and away, where the Bari fans always show up in force. Therefore, the team's results must align with the strength of its fans. Who must be respected.

Finally, a message to the fans. What would you like to say to those who today look at Bari's future with more doubts than certainties?

The red and white fans are underestimated by those who run the club. In terms of passion and mentality. It can't be this way. Bari has a name and has always fought to stay in Serie A. Seeing the city down is not nice. Traditionally, ever since I played, Bari has always been respected in every stadium in Italy. Now, credibility and trust are at a disadvantage, even compared to other teams. I know the fans well. The Bari fans are tough and never give up. We mustn't back down an inch. Today there is bitterness, but we mustn't lose faith. I am saddened too. I hope to return to Bari one day and celebrate with people who put their heart and soul into it.
